“I Wish I had Never Sold That Old Woody”

In 1955 I bought my Dad’s 1947 Ford Woody for $125 (in perfect condition). It got about 20 MPG when gas was about 30¢ per gallon. We could drive it to the beach and back for about a buck! and still be able to buy a couple of Mac Donald’s burgers for .50¢ (Our local Mc Donald’s sells 1, (one) Big Mac for $4.99 these days)

I drove the Woody for a couple of years and sold it for a profit at $150!! (I thought I was quite a business man at the ripe old age of 18)Today I can buy the same car back, in the same condition for about $50,000. I guess I should have kept it for a few more years (50 or so).

Ah, there is nothing  better that hindsight to give one indigestion! Winston Churchill once said: “What we don’t know about hindsight is what the 

result would have been if we had followed a different path”  

I wish I’d kept the old woody.

But then again, I wouldn’t have the Lincoln Navigator that cost $65,000  that is now worth 1/2 that and gets about 10 miles per gallon and gas here at Arco is $4.59 per gallon.

So, Saturday,  I will once again visit the local car show and I will lament at the great cars that I once had that I can’t afford to buy back.

P.S. Alas, not all is so sad, Cal and Lulu have a 1947 Ford Woody, just like my old car, that I can look at every day. (Of course, I have to drive to DOGiCITY to see it.)   ASC
